Emirates passengers to the US must sign a new attestation form before check-in

Emirates passengers flying to or connecting through the United States must complete and sign an attestation that they have not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the previous 21 days, Gulf News reports.

Emirates passengers flying to the United States must now complete and sign a new passenger attestation form before check-in, unless they qualify for an official exemption, Gulf News reported on 4 November. The requirement applies to passengers departing for the US at or after 11:59pm Eastern time on 3 November, and also to those connecting through the United States.

According to the report, the form confirms that the passenger has not been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the 21 days before boarding. Emirates says on its website that all information given must be accurate and truthful.

Each passenger must submit a separate form; where permitted, an authorised representative can complete and sign it on a passenger's behalf. Emirates advises downloading and printing the form from the US government website, completing and signing it before check-in, and bringing the paper copy to check-in for verification.

For passengers connecting through the United States, Emirates said verification may take place at the boarding gate. The airline recommends having the completed form ready before arriving at the airport to avoid delays at check-in.

What it means

Every Emirates traveller to the US needs a signed form, one for each person in the party, whether or not they have been to the Congo. The report does not say how long the requirement will stay in force.
